Gold and orange

I saw the prettiest drop of resin, illuminated by sunshine. A good reason to take my camera again! Unfortunately the battery didn't agree with me, so I had to wait a few hours, and the sun had turned of course. But the camera was ready, and so was I, so I went over in photographer mood! (amateur-photographer-mood off course)

Also did my nails today. Gold and orange it is! Finally something more excited to add to my basic working uniform. Fashion can be in the little things!
And next wednesday Ruby and I are leaving for a small festival called Casablanca, I'm sooo looking forward to it!

Playing around with make up

Promise inspired me once more to play around with make-up. I tried shaping this time! I definitely need more practice but I was just testing some effects actually. And I need something nice to shape too. Here I used brow powder, because of the simple reason that it's matte. But it's hard to blend though! And next time it will be an eye pencil to redefine the eyelid instead of a liquid eyeliner. Anyway I had fun :) and I think I do look different in the first pics, mission accomplished !

See how I draw extra lashes on my eyelid! :p The line above should have been smudged but I was too lazy again. Further it's shaping, shaping and shaping! Now I just have to find something that blends better. Perhaps eye shadow or bronzer? It has to be matte...

Living Fashion - Exhibition

Currently there is a very interesting exposition in Antwerp's fashion museum MoMu. It's about daily fashion during 1750 en 1950, showed in different sections.

The first section starts with a comparison of low-and high-budget dresses. Or in current fashion language: the originals and the knock-offs.

Like these dresses from the 1870's for example. They might look the same from our view, but if you take a closer look you might see differences in fabric and cut.

The dress on the left belonged to a fashionista / trendsetter and the one on the right was a simpler copy.

Other sections are: home, pregnant, double usage, dressed/undressed, masquerade, sports, travelling, shopping, ...

I was amazed to hear that women back then had just a few dresses. Even the rich people had about 3 to 5 pieces! They added variety to their gowns with demountable aprons, collars, ribbons, drags, ... Creativity is definitely something of all times.

Further it's quit hard to imagine for us that every piece is handmade. They ordered their clothing at a tailor and waited for months until it was finished or they simply made it themselves.
Things started to change since the 1850's. The Industrial Revolution had many cause-effects. Departments stores and shopping galleries appeared, people went more often outside for a walk. It was all about seeing and being seen. Shopping became a pastime, costumes to shop were designed with innovations (nouveautés) every season.
It's all rather hard to imagine for us, but it was a huge difference for them to change from custom-made clothing to ready-made clothing.

And one more strange thing: many mannequins stand on the ground, no pedestals are used, and with the thought in mind that every dress is tailor-made, they all look so frigging tiny !

Summarized:
It's a very interesting exhibition if you ever wondered what people wore back in the old days and what the differences are now. You have the chance to take a very close look and see all the details. Definitely a must if you're interested in fashion !
(A little tip, the MoMu is a very international focused museum, you will understand everything perfectly and further I recommend a guide, I regret the times I visited one of their exhibitions without one!)

Copacobana

Last week I went to a little festival in Ghent called Copacobana. It's not just a music festival but it also includes theatre (poetry) and dancing. It turned out quit magical, I had a very good time!
We arrived Friday evening when it was already dark. The atmosphere was immediately very cosy with coloured lights showing the way and  brass band with cute looking guys playing jazzy music.
The next we went in the afternoon. Unfortunately the weather wasn't that good but I loved the cultural vibe. I even danced with a total stranger! And I can't dance at all so it was very nice to have a leading partner while swing dancing.
Next year I'll be there again, definitely!

A little bit pride

Just a few snaps today.

I told you about my big concert in the previous post. It was actually a combination of a concert and graduation. With a little bit pride I can tell you that I graduated my music school with greatest honour, even the highest grades of my graduation year! It came absolutely unexpected though.
The outfit was worn the day after, it shows my new vintage pants (Oxfam Solidariteit Gent) and a H&M blouse.
