This was my summer

Because there suddenly appeared a new post on the 21th, this post had to move a few days later. Sorry for that :)

Summer is officially over now, since it's the 21th of September. Or perhaps on the 24th, but in my eyes the 21th is the first day of autumn. Also my classes start on Monday. A new year, a fresh start it is! So time for a little summer recap. Of course I did a lot more then summarized here, but this were some unforgettable experiences!

I'm starting a little bit ahead of summer, because it was such a magical experience that I had to share it!

We decided to have a little pick-nick on a most-of-the-time-abandoned airfield while watching the sunset. Quite romantic don't you think? Unfortunately it cooled down really fast afterwards and I was dressed for a hot summer day. So I borrowed a pair of his sweatpants and felt like a hip-hopper while biking home.

One of the first exciting things this summer, going to the festival Copacobana in Ghent with Ruby, Elleke and Katrijn. It' s a two day festival and we had the luck that we all study in Ghent and our dorm rooms are their. Sleeping accommodation: check! On day one it rained cats and dogs but that didn't bother the partying crowd. Despite of the rain there was a very good atmosphere and we danced and danced until the morning light! Ok, maybe a few hours earlier than that. On day two we met a group of international students and for the first time in our lives we talked English the whole evening.

In July I went to one of our many Antwerp dates with my friend Lynn. This time we spend the whole afternoon planning the camp we would give together the next week. And afterwards we made an evening walk around Antwerp including the MAS rooftop.

This summer I gave three camps, as an animator/monitor I mean. Two of them were themed, Fireman Sam-, and Dora and Diëgo-camp! Great times with buddy Lynn again. :)

Then it was time for another festival! The local Meadownight this time. I helped zhe boyfriend and his friends preparing the one day festival and had a great time the day itself. It's just a bit sad that the evening had to end with a scary storm that reminded a little of Pukkelpop 2011.

Later on it was time for another festival, a bigger one this time, which I was looking forward to the whole year: Casa Blanca. It was really amazing to experience it with my boyfriend for the first time, and with my other great friends too of course! I'm reaaaaally curious to see how my disposable camera pics will turn out!

Another thing that happened a lot apart from festivals were parties! Here we were on a local scouts party: Nacht van de Longman, while waiting for the Belgian group Halve Neuro.

Those two things don't go very well together unfortunately.

Then the less fun part of this summer. Resits.

Right after resits my love and I went on a city trip to Budapest! Finally some travelling! There probably will come another post about our journey. But all I can say now is that it was simply amazing!

And here we are now.

A hint of chic

Once upon a time there was a girl, living in a small town. It was right in the middle of summer and several heat waves had past, but today wasn't like that. Today the weather was ok. "It's the perfect moment to grab my new top", thought the girl. So she dressed up in her brand new lace top and a pair of skinny pants. Standing in front of her dresser, looking at her reflection, she saw there was something missing. A drop of colour. So she grabbed her lipstick and painted her lips red. Not too bright, she didn't want to draw attention. But she did like the feeling of lipstick on her lips, so she added her basic coloured MAC lipstick. Looking at her jewellery stand, her eyes fell on those special earrings, the ones her mum bought when she was about the same age, nearly thirty years ago. While putting them on, she spotted her chic Juicy Couture sunglasses. She insisted on wearing them, even though the sun wasn't shining that bright. It all looked perfectly, she thought while nodding her head. But then the girl remembered she just had to go to the supermarket and the post office that day, to buy a stamp for Ruby's birthday card and some last festival essentials. And she concluded that her look was way too chic. After a moment of reflection, she decided to change for a pair of casual jeans shorts, and added some casual old sandals. Thereafter the girl left, perhaps a little overdressed, but still feeling comfortable in her casual chic outfit, to the local post office in her small town.

Rooftops and Antwerp

It is probably in every touristic brochure by now, but if you ever go to Antwerp, you must go to the MAS. The Museum Aan de Stroom is quite an iconic building, but it's best side is definitely the rooftop. After you've taken nine escalators and one regular stairs, you will see one of Antwerp's finest views.
I love coming here in the evening, when the museum has al ready closed it's doors. When it's nice and quiet and there aren't a lots of visitors. Add a beautiful sunset, and it will be a perfect night.

Oh and the good part, since the rooftop is independent of the museum, you don't have to pay any entrance. It's free!

Daily uniform

Hi there! It's still Easter holidays over here. But exams are coming closer, and I talked a little bit too much about studying this holiday in advance, so my parents expect me to study non-stop. Well done, Siel. Luckily they're not very strict so I can escape now and then. And hey, I'm an adult, I've got my rights too!
This has sort of become my uniform lately. A four/five year old H&M winter (school) coat, my sister's huge scarf, a cuddly hat and oh, I'm forgetting the gloves! It looks like a midwinter outfit but it is definitely necessary cause the evenings are still very cold.
Besides studying, behind the window, absorbing the heat like a lizard and with sunglasses; I had the chance to do some rather fun stuff. Last Thursday I visited the Wiertzmuseum and the Watteau exposition in Brussels. Yes, we meet again Brussels. And today I was selling some old stuff at a flea market. Not a very large gain but surely a fun thing to do, and now I know what sells well, win!

This little fella was made for me yesterday, cute isn't it? A little seal for Siel that's actually a seel. And yes it's all pronounced the same way!

Oh and sorry if I'm writing a bit chaotically! It's funny actually how my writing style constantly varies of my mood. Now I'm definitely in a happy and talkative mood. :D

Meow, one pair of cat-eyes please !

Absolutely my favourite pair of glasses. Ad a scarf and you're totally ready for a ride in a cabrio! Unfortunately this type of glasses is rather difficult. I've tried like a zillion cat-eye sunglasses and none of them looked well on me. :( But if you have a more round shaped head it should look perfect on you

Buzzzzzzzzzzz, insect alarm !
 I admit, it frightened me a bit. But think about what Jean Paul Gaultier said:

In fashion there is no question 'Why?', there is only 'Why not?'.

That is certainly my favourite fashion quote, I should write it on my closet for every time I doubt about my outfit. Now back to the glasses. Denni from The Chicmuse started with these huge insect-eyes glasses from Tom Ford, and she combined them very chic with black and gold. If this is a bit too much for you, there are several more basic versions.
And a little tip: don't try this if you have a small, round shaped head, you will definitely look like a fly.

Steampunk !
I know it's actually more vintage and flee market style but it reminds me of steampunk, and steampunk gothics are awesome, so I call this trend Steampunk. Characterized by fine metal details, the colour brown and perhaps a little bit wood. Maybe I'd better searched for some better examples, but I guess these will do.

Prepare for some fun with these quirky glasses !
Think curious, funny, weird, quirk, ... There is something about these glasses that doesn't make them normal. The good thing about these glasses is that you can buy as many as you wish! They always look unique so you won't wear it as your daily basic glasses, every outfit needs other quirky glasses!

Perhaps you'll think now: "What the hell was all of that? I'll just stick to my basics." Well basics are definitely a good investment, they look good on everything and will be your loyal friend for years. Unless you're the type that ruins there glasses every summer. Then I advice you to take a look at H&M or New Look.
I never understood that, I still have all my sunnies from when I was 12!
Nevertheless, you can never go wrong with one of these, and they suit almost everyone.
